The Town of Barrington, board members of the Friends of the Barrington Dog Park and the
State of Rhode Island are not responsible for any injury that may occur at this park.
BEFORE ENTERING, DOGS MUST
Be leashed outside the enclosure. (§ 67-2)
Be at least 4 months of age.
Be licensed with the city or town in which they reside.
Be free of contagious diseases and illnesses.
Be up-to-date on rabies and distemper vaccines. (§ 67-9)
Not have any history of aggression toward other dogs or humans. (§ 67-7)
Not be wearing a prong, choke, or spiked collar.
Not be in heat.
WHILE VISITING, DOG OWNERS MUST
Be present with your dog(s) the entire time
Be aware of your surroundings
Be able to control your dog physically or by voice
Pick up your dog’s waste immediately using provided bags and waste containers (§ 67-18)
Assume full responsibility for your dog’s interaction with other dogs, humans, and park features
Keep children under 12 years old within arm’s reach.
Prevent children from running, screaming, or teasing dogs
Replace holes if your dog digs
Not smoke or vape within 150 feet of park entrances (§ 69-2)
Not carry food, dog treats, or beverages (with the exception of water)
Not discard toys, trash, or park furniture by throwing it outside the park fence (This park allows ball throwing and if your dog has ball-aggression or possession challenges, this isn’t the right park for them)
IN THE EVENT OF A DOG FIGHT
1. Separate dogs and leash them as soon as possible.
2. Check all parties for injuries and take pictures/video if necessary
3. Exchange information with the other dog owner(s).
4. Contact Barrington Police Department to report the fight (401) 437-3935
5. Be prepared to submit a copy of your dog’s rabies certificate within 2 hours. (§67-7)
Barrington, RI Town Ordinances Referenced:
§ 67-2 Restraint of dogs required.
Each owner shall keep his dog under restraint at all times. Failure to do so shall constitute a violation of this chapter.
§ 67-7 Confinement of certain dogs.
B. Dog bite and rabies control.
(1) The owner of any animal which has bitten a person or another animal must report the incident to the Police Department within two hours.
§ 67-9 Rabies vaccinations required.
A. It shall be unlawful for any person to own any dog or cat over the age of six months within the Town unless such dog or cat shall have received a rabies vaccination in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.
E. Any dog or cat over six months old found within the limits of the Town without evidence that such dog or cat has been vaccinated or inoculated in accordance with the provisions of this chapter may be impounded by the Animal Control Officer of the Town as provided in §§ 67-3 and 67-4.
§ 67-18 Canine waste removal.
A. It shall be the duty of each person who owns, possesses or controls a dog to remove and dispose of any feces left by the dog on any sidewalk, street, beach, park, cemetery or other public area. It shall further be the duty of each person who owns, possesses or controls a dog to remove and dispose of any feces left by the animal on any private property neither owned nor occupied by such person.
B. No person who owns, possesses or controls a dog shall appear with such dog in any public area or private property neither owned nor occupied by such person without such means of removal of any feces left by such dog.
§ 69-2 Prohibited activities.
Smoking and other uses of tobacco products (including vaping products) are hereby prohibited at any athletic or recreational facility/field owned or operated by the Town of Barrington. (§ 69-1 Definitions. ATHLETIC OR RECREATIONAL FACILITIES OWNED OR LEASED BY THE TOWN OF BARRINGTON - Any athletic or recreational facility, including but not limited to any playing field, ball field, basketball court, tennis court or playground, together with the area within one hundred fifty (150) feet thereof, which is owned or operated by the Town of Barrington.
